KOREA NIGHT 2024
The inaugural KOREA NIGHT took place on March 6th at Hyatt Regency Minneapolis during the APS March Meeting 2024, where Korean physicists gathered to connect and collaborate with their colleagues. Welcoming remarks were given by Harold Kim (President of the Association of Korean Physicists in America, AKPA), Suklyun Hong (President of the Korean Physical Society, KPS), and Young-Kee Kim (President of the American Physical Society, APS).
Dear Colleagues,
The Association of Korean Physicists in America (AKPA) is pleased to invite nominations for the 2024 Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA). OYRA was established in 1994 to recognize and promote excellence in research by ethnic Korean physicists in their early careers. Nominees are limited to physicists who are working at universities, research institutions, or industrial or government laboratories in North America.
The deadline for the nomination letter and supporting documents is March 31, 2024.
More details of the announcement can be found at https://www.akpa.org/oyra-award and in the attached flyer. Please help share the information with your colleagues and encourage them to nominate excellent candidates. If you have any questions, please contact oyra2024@akpa.org.
Best regards,
Harold Kim

Dear AKPA members:
We are pleased to announce that the 2023 AKPA Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA) will be awarded to
Junyeong Ahn (Postdoctoral Fellow, Harvard University)
"for elucidating the optical responses of quantum materials in terms of geometry and topology,"
and
Na Hyun Jo (Assistant Professor, University of Michigan)
"for pioneering experimental studies of quantum materials under strain using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) "
This award is jointly sponsored by the Association of Korean Physicists in America (AKPA) and the Korean Physical Society (KPS).
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Junyeong Ahn and Dr. Na Hyun Jo for their outstanding achievements!

The 2023 AKPA-KPS Symposium will be held via ZOOM. The 2023 Outstanding Young Researcher Award (OYRA) will be presented in the beginning of the event, and the presentations by the winners and the others will follow.
AKPA-KPS Symposium
8:00 – 10:30 pm, May 14 (Sun), 2023 in EST
9:00 – 11:30 am, May 15 (Mon), 2023, in KST
The US-Korea Conference (UKC 2022) was held in Washington DC, August 18 – 20, 2022. As a part of the program, AKPA organized the Physics Symposium with three oral sessions covering a wide range of topics: (1) Physics under extreme conditions, (2) Astrophysics, and (3) AKPA and Other Topics. More than 20 Physicists, from US and Korea and from graduate students to senior faculty members, participated and made stimulating presentations followed by many questions and discussions. The UKC 2022 and the Physics Symposium provided an excellent opportunity to establish and strengthen the professional network among the Korean physicists in US and from Korea through the scientific interactions, the networking dinner, and the banquet.
